Just as Deb and I are returning from Waimea for the day, we get word of yet another fire near Waikoloa. At least the upper road was still open, though the lower was closed. The fire conditions are bad today, stiff trade winds and extraordinary dry conditions on the range lands.
As we drew near the village we could see just how close this time, right up against the southern side of the built up area. This includes just across the highway from the stables and the hill behind the post office. The various fire departments were out in force with two helicopters doing drops, U.S. Army personnel from Pohakuloa, and a huge Caterpillar tractor arriving to aid in the effort.
