Deb and I attended the Mauna Kea Volunteer Banquet last night, a dinner and award ceremony to honor the great crew of volunteers who make the VIS one of the best places to visit on the island. It is amazing to see the sheer enthusiasm and dedication from the people who contributed more that 10,000 hours for the cause of educating visitors about astronomy and the culture of Mauna Kea.
I have to give a thanks to Callie, who not only coordinates the volunteer program, but put together the banquet as well.
Nice to see Cliff get the volunteer of the year award, he has put so much heart into the mountain, regularly leading the summit tours.
Deb and I are looking forward to another year of evenings spent at the VIS and racking up another couple hundred hours. And yes, you might find my name listed after an award...
