  1. Is this comet path to scale, if so what scale? I understand that when Comet Lovejoy is nearest the sun that it is entirely inside the orbit of Mercury. I could be mistaken.

    1. Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy has a perihelion well outside Earth’s orbit, not very close to the Sun. This is why it is beautifully high in the midnight sky right now. If it were close to the Sun we would be looking for it low in the sunset or dawn skies, if we could see it at all.
