An eruption taking place in the Mokuʻāweoweo caldera of Mauna Loa. The image is dated 1920, probably a release date, there was no eruption in 1920. This is most likely one eruptions of Mauna Loa that occurred in 1907, 1914, 1916, or 1919. The image is looking north-northwest and shows lava pouring into the south pit. There are two large spatter cones created in more recent eruptions that are missing here. The lava falls into the south pit is also much narrower than is seen today. Credit: NYPL Image Collection
