A ranch cabin above Pu’uwa’awa’a has a proper hitching post out front. In the past protea were raised in an enclosure in front of the house, possibly for extra income. About a decade ago some of these plants still bloomed, they are gone now. The house is still maintained by DLNR and the Pu’uwa’awa’a volunteer group.
