The Quadrantids are a reliable shower, producing 60-120 ZHR, one to two meteors per minute. The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quadrantids\" target=\"_blank\">Quadrantids<\/a> are named for the obsolete constellation <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quadrans_Muralis\" target=\"_blank\">Quadrans Muralis<\/a>, now part of the constellation <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bootes\" target=\"_blank\">Bo\u00f6tes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_6190\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6190\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/LeonidOrion20091117.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/LeonidOrion20091117-e1352170673154-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Leonids in Orion\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-6190\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A pair of Leonid meteors streak through Orion<\/figcaption><\/figure>Unlike other showers where activity can occur for days or even weeks, the Quadrantids have a sharp peak, activity falls off rapidly on the preceding and following nights, or even a few hours away from the peak.  Thus it is important to observe the Quadrantids quite near the peak prediction.  For 2015 the peak is predicted for January 4th around 02:00UT, or January 3rd at 16:00HST on this side of the globe, mid-afternoon. The shower radiant in Bo\u00f6tes does not rise until around 2am local time.  Combine the light of a full moon and poor timing and you quickly see that observing conditions are less than ideal for observing this year&#8217;s shower. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?p=283\">Watching meteors requires no more equipment than your eyes and a dark sky<\/a>, and can be enjoyable for just about anyone.
