{"id":26148,"date":"2019-05-19T01:00:58","date_gmt":"2019-05-19T11:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?p=26148"},"modified":"2019-05-18T22:49:16","modified_gmt":"2019-05-19T08:49:16","slug":"june-observing-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?p=26148","title":{"rendered":"June Observing List"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Our next club dark sky star party will be June 1st at the usual <a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?p=18076\">Ka\u02bbohe<\/a> site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?attachment_id=4322\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/ngc5139-20120519-e1554850264162-200x200.jpg\" alt=\"Omega Centauri\" class=\"wp-image-4322\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Omega Centauri, NGC5139<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For the evening I have again assembled an observing list for those who want to explore some of the more interesting objects available in the sky this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are all visible in the early evening, all suitable for average telescopes of at least 6-8&#8243; aperture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=M5\">M5<\/a><br>RA: 15h 18&#8242; Dec: 2\u00b0 4&#8217;N Mag: 5.8 Globular cluster in Ser<br>A nice bright globular, about 15&#8242; in diameter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?IotaCnc\">Iota Cnc<\/a><br>RA: 8h 46&#8242; Dec: 28\u00b0 46&#8217;N Binary star in Cnc<br>A pretty yellow and white pair, 4.0 and 6.6 separated by 30&#8243;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=V+Hya\">V Hya<\/a><br>RA: 10h 52&#8242; Dec: 21\u00b0 15&#8217;S Mag: 8 Carbon star<br>Reddest carbon star known variable from 6.5-12 magnitude with a period of 533 days<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=M92\">M92<\/a><br>RA: 17h 17&#8242; Dec: 43\u00b0 8&#8217;N Mag: 6.5 Globular cluster in Her<br>This nice globular cluster is often overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbor M13, but M92 is also worth the stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=NGC6207\">NGC6207<\/a><br>RA: 16h 43&#8242; Dec:36\u00b0 50&#8217;N Mag: 11.6 Galaxy in Her<br>Just 28&#8242; north of M13 this faint 11th magnitude galaxy is a nice challenge object for eight inch or larger optics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=NGC5846\">NGC5846<\/a><br>RA: 15h 6&#8242; 29.3&#8243; Dec:  1\u00b0 36&#8242; 20&#8243;N Mag: 10.2 Galaxy in Vir<br>A bright elliptical, those with larger aperture may note a small companion galaxy on the south edge of the halo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=M99\">M99 Coma Pinwheel Galaxy<\/a><br>RA: 12h 18&#8242; 49.7&#8243; Dec: 14\u00b0 24&#8242; 59&#8243;N Mag: 9.8 Galaxy in Com<br>A nice spiral galaxy, larger aperture will show some of the spiral structure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=NGC5128\">NGC5128 Centaurus A<\/a><br>RA: 13h 25&#8242; Dec: 43\u00b0 1&#8217;S Mag: 7 Galaxy in Cen<br>A large bright galaxy with an obvious dust lane<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proxima Cen<br>RA: 14h 29&#8242; 43&#8243; Dec:62\u00b0 40&#8242; 46&#8243;S Red dwarf star<br>The closest star outside our solar system, a challenge object to be sure, you will want good charts to find this one.  The coordinates given above are from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gaia_(spacecraft)\">Gaia mission data release\u00a02<\/a> and are recent enough to be accurate, this high proper motion star moves about 4 arcseconds each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkerview.com\/scripts\/query.php?ObjID=NGC5286\">NGC5286<\/a><br>RA: 13h 46&#8242; Dec: 51\u00b0 22&#8217;S Mag:7.6 Globular in Cen<br>Another nice, but oft overlooked globular star cluster<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that this list is assembled for the usual <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.keck.hawaii.edu\/whac\/home.html\">West Hawaii Astronomy Club<\/a> observing site at <a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?p=18076\">Ka\u02bbohe<\/a>, on the side of Mauna Kea at 20N latitude.
