It seems so long ago, it seems like yesterday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?attachment_id=23770\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/CJ12-05-18154-DC-200x200.jpg\" alt=\"Fissure 8 Lava Fountain\" class=\"wp-image-23770\"\/><\/a><figcaption>The lava fountain at fissure 8 in Leilani Estates throwing lava hundreds of feet in the air on June 3rd, 2018<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We looked down on a broad flow front, over a mile wide.  The flow burning through orchid farms and papaya orchards, destruction that was painful to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We looked down on a lava fountain hundreds of feet high.  Fissure 8 was supplying a river of lava that spelled doom for Kapoho Bay and the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/darkerview.com\/wordpress\/?p=23827\">tidepools at Wai\u02bbopae<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A year later the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiitribune-herald.com\/2019\/05\/23\/hawaii-news\/wooden-poles-at-pgv-smoldering\/\">lava is still cooling<\/a> and the community is still rebuilding.  Kilauea is quiet with no lava on the surface anywhere.
