The NASA Kepler mission has revealed that dynamically compact systems are common
around sun-like stars (e.g., Kepler 11 in the central panel). These systems
contain several low-mass planets within the orbit of Mercury. As in our Solar
System, these orbits receive too much irradiation and the planet surfaces are
too hot to sustain liquid water. Credit: Guillem Anglada-Escude
